Last Shabbos the sixth of Elul was the first Yahrzeit of Rav Meir Zvi Ehrentreu z"tl the Rosh Hayeshiva and Rosh Hakollel of the Manchester Yeshiva. He was one of the Torah lights of the Manchester community who, besides his harbotzas Hatorah in the yeshiva, gave a twice-weekly shiur in the Machzikei Hadass for more than 30 years. A Sholosh Seudos was organized by the family and talmidim, which was attended by more than two hundred people.
The chairman was his bechor and successor as Rosh Hakollel Rav Moshe Yitzchok. The Siyum Hamishnayos was made by his second son, Rav Shloime Zalman, who aptly fitted the niftar's qualities into the last perek of Uktzin. Another son, Rav Aharon indicated the relationship of the niftar with the Parsha, which contains the dinnim of the Melech of Yisroel. The Melech is sholet and mashpia on others by the quality of being sholet on himself. Rav Meir Zvi z"tl was melech on himself and thus was able to be marbitz Torah v'yirah.
The main speakers were the Rov Umora De'asra Rav M. M. Schnebalg who highlighted the niftar's unique ability to make all he came in contact with feel important. He said that the greatness of the tzaddik can be seen by what he left behind and in truth the tzaddik exists when his children and talmidim continue in his ways.
Dayan Rav O. Westheim described the niftar's humility. He said that the Shechina that could be felt and the good midos of the niftar were all the product of the Torah he learnt with such hasmodo. He was the personification of his limmud hatorah.
On Sunday at the Hakomos Hamatzeva at Phillips Park, talmidim from out of town and from abroad were able to be present. Rav Meir Zvi z"tl lies next to his great father-in- law Rav Yehuda Ze'ev Segal z"tl. After the recitation of the appropriate Tehillim, Rav Schneebalg opened the proceedings. He declared that the Nefesh Al Kivro is the continuation of the neshomo, that is still here.
Rav Y.C. Horowitz, the Rov of the local Satmar Kehilla explained that this place is admas kodesh a place to daven when one reminds oneself of the gadlus and the chashivus of the niftar.
Rav Avrohom Ehrentreu, the niftar's son, who flew in from Antwerp to be present highlighted the qualities of his father. There was much that one couldn't see, but from the little that Rav Meir Zvi revealed, one could appreciate that there was so much more.
All of the speakers fervently prayed that the niftar be a melitz yosher for his Almanah, for his family, for the community for Klal Yisroel and especially for the Yiden in Eretz Yisroel. Zchuso yagen oleinu v'all kol yisroel - amen
