Rabbi Chaim Zundel Maccoby was born in Kamenitz, Russia. He settled in London in 1890. He was a great and saintly preacher. He brought happiness into the lives of London’s East End Jews by teaching them compassion for all living creatures, and how to remain healthy with little money. He had an enormous following. The crowds were so large that traffic was held up whenever he preached in the streets. Rabbi Chaim Zundel was a dedicated vegetarian who wore cloth shoes all year long to show his abhorrence of leather.
